A rainy day in Venice: What to do

This is the rhythm of a rainy day in Venice. The most beautiful city under the rain can really make you feel part of the nature: the ticking of the drops with the lapping of the canals and the voices of the gondoliers rowing and pronuncing the sound OE. This is the famous sound used by rowers as a warning when approching an intersection of canals or a curve.

Waking up in Venice, opening the windows and hearing the rain...

The greatest emotion is waking up in a room of our hotel and hearing the sound of the rain. Yes, because our city doesn't miss a beat neither with the rain, nobody backs down and, especially for tourists, it has that familiar atmosphere and also a lot of places to find shelter.

A two-step away museum: Querini Stampalia

An interesting indoor activity is visiting the museum Querini Stampalia. As luck would have it, it's situated right in Campo Santa Maria Formosa near our hotel, so you don't have to walk under the rain too much. The Querini Stampalia Foundation was born in the 1869, because the last descendant wanted to preserve the whole patrimony of the family.

Inside there's a library open until late night, an environment museum and an area for temporary exhibitions. The mission of this foundation is “promoting the culture of the good studies and useful disciplines”, so if you are thirsty of knowledge, this is the place for you!

HOT CHOCOLATE AT ROSA SALVA'S

Another place that's been part of the Venetian culture for centuries is the Rosa Salva Bakery.

Located a few minutes walk from our hotel, it's the historical bakery in Venice, the richest in history and renowned all over the world for its top quality desserts, made with great skill and love, following the tradition. If you are looking for a sweet shelter from the humidity and the rain, the staff will be happy to welcome you with open arms with a good hot chocolate to drink watching the drops sliding on the window.

Bacaro Tour

Last but not least, a Bacaro tour is a must when you visit Venice. And what better day than a rainy one? It consists on going from bar to bar (bacaro in Venetian) for all evening drinking spritz, wine or prosecco of every kind, accompanied by cicchetti (bruschette, meatballs, peanuts or little panini and pizzette) and staying there cheerfully, meeting new people and listening to new stories and customs of the place.
