Venice: the Spring of Museums

Venice is a true open-air museum: everywhere we can admire ancient buildings and churches that made history. It's also the land of the most famous museums, art collections, artists, painters and sculptures in the world.

Peggy Guggenheim Collection

In Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, in the district of Dorsoduro, go see the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, one of the most loved collections in Venice. Peggy, the emblem of a woman who dedicated her life to art and brought contemporary art in America, and later in Venice, revolutionizing completely the cultural environment of the whole country.

The collection is situated in the ancient house of Peggy, so you will experience the emotion of walking among the rooms and the Garden of the sculptures of Nasher, admiring the personal collection of the heiress with the masterpiece of the most important avant-gardists of XX century, and the temporary exhibition currently ongoing Migrating Objects: Art from Africa, Oceania and the Americas in the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, that are for the first time exposed all at once in Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, revealing a side of the collection that's rarely visible to the public.

Doge's Palace

Gothic masterpiece in San Marco square, founded after 812, the Doge's Palace was for centuries the home of the Doge and the main governing bodies of the Serenissima Republic. Nowadays you can visit the precious rooms of the Doge's Apartment in the first floor, and between the second floor and the Floor of the Lodges there are the Istitutional Chambers enriched by the renowned Venetian masters like: Tintoretto, Tiziano, Paolo Veronese.

Let yourselves be amazed by the famous Porta della Carta, where there were posted new laws and ordinances, or by the Garden where the Incoronation Ceremonies of the Doge were celebrated.

Accademia Galleries

The richest collection of Venetian paintings is at your complete disposal to dive in the art: from Giorgione to Bellini, Tiziano, Carpaccio and Canaletto, all the greatest artists that ade the history of the Venetian art have a seat for their artworks in this majestic building. There are also sculptures and drawings, like the renowned Vitruvian Man of Leonardo da Vinci (only exposed in special occasions). The Galleries owe their name to the Art Accademy that shared the seat until 2004.

Archeological Museum

Situated in San Marco Square in the Procuratie Nuove, where the prosecutors used to stay, it's a true piece of jewelry for the archeology lovers. It hosts Greek statues, Roman statues, reliefs and inscriptions.

Jewish Museum

The Jewish community was always important in Venice, so the ghetto of Cannaregio hosts the Jewish Museum of Venice, founded and curated by the community itself from 1954. There are exposed objects of the textile and goldsmith tradition, ritual objects and a collection of books and manuscripts that allow the visitor to dive completely in the jewish culture of the past centuries. In the ghetto you can admire the synagogas that are currently used by the community: they seem normal buildings from the outside, but inside they reveal a real piece of jewelry.
