🇬🇧Have you ever noticed the yellow mooring posts in front of the water gate of Palazzo Ruzzini? Venetian noble families had the privilege of painting the “briccole” with their family’s distinctive colors. So, each stripe, each shade represents the identity and nobility of a Venetian family. This practice not only adds a touch of color and charm to the landscape but also reminds us of the rich history and tradition of Venice: the difference between “bricole” and mooring posts. The vertical wooden poles you see protruding from the water are called “briccole” or “bricole” in Venetian and are used to guide boats by signaling shallow points, thus avoiding boats getting stuck in the mud. On the other hand, mooring posts are the characteristic docking poles. Unlike “bricole,” mooring posts consist of a single pole, mainly used for docking boats or gondolas. Now that you can recognize them, take a fresh look at the charm of our canals! 🇮🇹Hai mai notato le paline gialle di fronte alla porta d’acqua di Palazzo Ruzzini? Le famiglie nobili veneziane avevano il privilegio di dipingere le bricole con i colori distintivi della propria famiglia. Quindi, ogni riga, ogni tonalità rappresenta l’identità e la nobiltà di una famiglia veneziana. Questa pratica non solo aggiunge un tocco di colore e fascino al paesaggio, ma ci ricorda anche la ricca storia e tradizione di Venezia: la differenza tra bricole e paline.
